Empty Cradle was founded in 1982 by three families to offer comfort, information and friendship to parents suffering the loss of a baby.  Besides providing support to grieving families, another goal of Empty Cradle was to help educate the professional community about ways to help parents who have lost a baby.   The group quickly grew and added a chapter in the North San Diego County, and recently added another chapter in Riverside County.

 Empty Cradle has established itself as a vital resource in our community.  The response has been positive, resulting in many beneficial changes in both professional and personal responses to the death of a baby.

 We have discovered that the common bond of a shared experience draws us together and helps us with the painful task of resolving our grief.  For this reason, our resource parent network is vital not only to the newly bereaved, but also to those whose grief is no longer new.  By reaching out to others, we can achieve our stated goal:

 “…to comfort the grief of an aching heart and ease the pain of an empty cradle…”
 

Volunteering

 Many members who have received Empty Cradle’s help reach a point where they would like to reach out to others in their time of need, and give back to the organization.  We encourage volunteering within the group as a way of coming to terms with one’s own bereavement, while helping others come to terms with theirs.

There are many different volunteer opportunities, both at the meetings and behind the scenes.  Some of the ongoing needs that Empty Cradle typically has are for Sharing Circle Facilitators, Phone Volunteers, and Meetings Volunteers.  Please email us at for more information or to volunteer.

 Donations 

Empty Cradle is a 501(c) non-profit organization financially supported solely through tax-deductible donations and community grants.  No dues or fees are required of anyone using our services.  Donations can be made in memory of a baby, in honor of someone, or just as a general donation. Donations can be made in any amount, and will be acknowledged in our newsletter.
