October Memorial Meeting and Candle Lighting Service

At all three of our October meetings, we will be having our annual memorial service. This is one of the most important and moving meetings of the year…a time to remember, reflect and connect with your beloved baby(ies). We’d like to invite you to share with others at the meeting the various ways that you have memorialized your baby(ies). Perhaps you have a memory album, pictures, a poem, a quilt, a box, special mementos or some other cherished items that helps you to remember and keep your baby’s spirit alive. Please bring any memorial items that you would like to share to the October meeting and join us for our candle lighting memorial.

Memorial Meeting Dates for 2009:

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is October 15th of each year. This special day was created to bring national awareness to the impact of pregnancy loss. The goal is to provide support, education and awareness for those who are suffering or may know someone who has suffered a miscarriage, an ectopic pregnancy, a still birth, or the loss of an infant. On September 28, 2006, House Resolution #222 was passed in the House of Representatives supporting the goals and ideals of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. One of the Speakers that spoke in support of the House Resolution was California Representative Brian Bilbray. Mr. Bilbray also shared that he and his wife had lost their 3 month old baby to SIDS and that even though it had been 22 years ago, he and his wife still very much felt the pain of losing their little one.

The mission of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day is “to diligently work with local, state and national leaders to obtain a National Day of Remembrance recognizing the need for community education and awareness when a family loses a child to miscarriage, stillbirth, and/or neonatal death. While promoting the need for openness, understanding and compassion during a family's time of grief and most importantly, allowing those who wish, to remember these children who we now hold dear.”

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

Empty Cradle is an organization run entirely by volunteers. Our volunteers donate their precious time and energy in order to help the organization continue to provide support and services to bereaved parents and the community. Many of our resource parents find that volunteering is a good way to “parent” their lost little one(s).

Once a year, the Empty Cradle Organization says thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers with a luncheon in honor of their dedication to the organization. Our next luncheon date will occur Saturday April 25th, 2009. The Luncheon will be held from 11 am - 1:00 pm at the Macaroni Grill at the Westfield Shopping Mall in Escondido.

Thanks so much to all of our volunteers! Your commitment and dedication to the organization continues to bring hope to our members!

October 10 Volunteer Training - Parents Helping Parents

Empty Cradle is a non-profit volunteer organization. We rely on our volunteers to keep the organization going and to help provide the services we offer. On Saturday, October 10, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, we will have a meeting for all of our new volunteers and for those who are interested in learning about the different volunteer positions that are available. For more information about the training you may call the Empty Cradle phone line or send an inquiry to volunteer@emptycradle.org.
